Students get to participate in learning experiences using the D39C design process (Empathy, Research, Define, Ideate & Brainstorm, Model & Prototype, Test & Evaluate, Publish & Produce) while having fun at the same time.

DESIGN THINKING CAMP – SUMMER 2018
- Session 1 (3 days) – July 11-13
- Session 2 (5 days) – July 16-20
NOTE: Students can sign up for 1 or both sessions.
Young Designers’ Camp Daily Schedule
(Scheduled timing is tentative based on student needs)
8:45-9:00 Arrival/free time
9:00-9:30: Braincooker Activity
One of the most challenging aspects of the design process is the Brainstorming phase, in which we generate multiple ideas or solutions to the problem in front of us. Braincooker is an interactive game that helps flex cognitive muscles that support brainstorming by reinforcing.
9:30-10:30: Design Challenge of Day (Part 1)
Every design challenge will start with a read aloud of a fairy tale story. Through reading, students will gain empathy for the characters in the story and identify the character’s problem. Students will develop problem statements that can be used to guide their prototyping phase in design thinking. Students will collaborate to create a prototype design that will be structured after morning break.
10:30- 10:45: Break/ Snack (provided from home)
Students are encouraged to bring a snack with their name on it and water to stay hydrated throughout the day.
10:45- 11:50: Design Challenge of the Day (Part 2)
This part of the day will be devoted to collaborative groups finishing prototypes using the designated materials, collaborative groups sharing out their ideas, and giving quality feedback that offer opportunities to reflect, learn, and grow.
11:50-12:00: Share and Dismiss
Students will have the opportunity to reflect and share from their learning for the day. Dismissal will be in the same location as drop off.
