Meet Ms. Laurie Magulac!
Ms. M is the Student Services Specialist at Design39Campus. She is a part of the Student Support Services Team for our campus. As part of this team, she helps students with middle school struggles. She works along with the school psychologists, the counselors, and teachers to create wellness for the students. For example, at school, she teaches tobacco and vaping prevention training to all 7th and 8th graders and works with students who are struggling with peer pressure. Ms. M said she also works with students who have “anxiety, school struggles, or need help with friends, kind of like a life coach for middle school.” This means that she is here for us at D39, to help us with our life struggles.
Ms. M has been in education for over 20 years. She started teaching as a middle school teacher in San Diego City Schools. She then ended up teaching in the AVID program, to help students develop college readiness and success skills. She helped the students by providing resources and getting connected with their families. She decided to go into education because she had an interest in teaching. Ms. M wanted to join our school because “she used to work at Del Norte and wanted to move from being an Instructional Assistant into Student Services.”
Before she started teaching, Ms. M was a Science Major at UC San Diego. Now she’s getting her Masters in Social Work at Cal State San Marcos.
We asked Ms. M some fun questions to learn more about her. She loves to eat the crust off pizza. She likes her steaks grilled medium rare. During quarantine, Ms. M loved to walk her dog, Kota. Thanks for getting to know Ms. M! Stop by and say hi in the Loft!
